Amalgams (Silver Fillings)
Amalgams are comprised of mercury, silver, copper, tin, and zinc. They are very durable and resistant to wear, however they do not have the cosmetic result of a composite filling. The safety of silver fillings has been under scrutiny in recent years due to its mercury content. The FDA has not found any conclusive evidence to support that it is detrimental to our health at this time.
Composites (White Fillings)
Composites are tooth-colored plastic mixtures filled with glass that give an excellent esthetic result. They are bonded to the teeth to prevent them from coming out.
