Advantages Of Dental Implants

Looking to Replace a Missing Tooth?

Teeth were intended to last for a lifetime, however sometimes they do not.  Replacing your missing teeth are so important to your overall general health and all of your other teeth. Not only do you end up with a problem chewing your food, but another problem is a missing tooth can also cause the surrounding teeth to tip into their space, creating subsequent problems. As you would assume, there are many other obvious problems as well. Appearance and loss of self- esteem also arise when you are missing teeth. A dental implant should always be considered to replace a missing tooth. Using a dental implant to replace a missing tooth has been being used for 50+ years. This treatment is more predictable than bridgework for one major reason. Although bridgework can be a useful form of dentistry, bridgework also involves the surrounding teeth. If you can avoid having to disrupt the quality of the surrounding teeth, that would be ideal.

What are dental implants?

A dental implant is used to provide a substitute for the roots of the missing teeth. They play the part of the anchor for the replacement tooth, crown or set of dentures.

Are you a candidate for an implant?

Implants may be the right selection for all ages, for anyone that may be missing teeth due to decay, injury or disease.  Particularly useful for patients that can no longer wear a removable denture. Your dentist will determine by doing an evaluation, if you are indeed a candidate for implants.

Are there multiple types of implants?

Yes, there are all types of brands, sizes and shapes of implants. Your dentist or specialist will determine which implant is best for you.

Do you have enough bone structure to retain an implant?

It is extremely important for you to have enough bone to support implants. If by chance you do not have enough bone, you can indeed still have an implant with a safe and effective way to correct that issue. Once again, your dentist will advise you on whether or not additional bone material will be required.

How long is the implant process?

Each patient’s situation can vary.  Your dentist will be able to give you the appropriate treatment time needed for your case.  Your first step in implant treatment would be to consult with your general dentist.  Be sure to inquire about the implant dentist’s credentials, training and experience. Many general dentists, periodontists, oral surgeons and prosthodontists performs these procedures.
