Experiencing Tooth Sensitivity?? Here are 4 tips to help!

That sip of coffee, or that bowl of ice cream you’ve been craving all day can be bothersome to many patients who experience tooth sensitivity. Here are a few helpful tips to minimize tooth sensitivity.

1. Pay attention to your brushing technique

It could be that you are too enthusiastic about brushing and could be brushing too aggressively. Although it may seem that brushing harder would help your overall oral hygiene when in fact it leads to gum recession. When your gums recede it exposes the sensitive areas of the teeth. Brushing with a soft toothbrush in a circular motion and not sawing back and forth.

2. Stay away from acidic foods and beverages

A major culprit could be from a high acidic diet. Drinks like soda, energy drinks, sports drinks, juice and candy carry a lot of acid in them causes them to erode the tooth enamel.

3. Make a change in your toothpaste choice

Whitening toothpastes can be a bit abrasive, so when making a toothpaste selection choose one specified for sensitive teeth, patients report great success after just a few weeks of using products like Sensodyne or Colgate Sensitivity.

4. Come visit your dentist

Tooth sensitivity could have a number of different reasons to why you’re experiencing some pain. Gum recession could be a sign of gum disease. Sensitivity could also be a sign of tooth decay or be a warning sign that you are clenching or grinding your teeth.
